Vegetarian Diet Lowers The Risk Of Colorectal Cancer


Colorectal CancerColorectal cancer, like lung cancer, is a dreaded disease that affects portion of the large intestine leading from the cecum to the rectum and the rectum proper in humans. As part of their continuing research, Seventh Day Adventists in America further held studies on vegetarians, pescovegetarians (vegetarians eating no meat but eating fish more than once in a month) and low meat-eating groups to study the spread of colorectal cancer amongst such demographies, releasing their findings on March 9, 2015 in JAMA Internal Medicine. The studies revealed that vegetarians have 22% lower risk for colorectal cancer than normal meat eaters, while, surprisingly, pescovegetarians (a part of vegetarian community) stand a 43% lower risk of contracting this cancer, apart from having increased longevity and low risk from other diseases such as lung cancer as well.
